New York City-based interior designer Michael Kramer, renowned for his innovative designs at Michael Thomas & Co., has partnered with iconic fashion brand Lilly Pulitzer to create two stunning, garden-inspired private cottages at the legendary Nantucket Hotel & Resort. This collaboration merges Lilly Pulitzer’s signature vibrant patterns with the elegance of island living, offering a fresh take on the resort’s storied charm.
This initiative marks the third immersive guest experience by Lilly Pulitzer, in collaboration with Little Gem Resorts, following their successful projects at The Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Martha’s Vineyard and the exclusive Lilly-Villa at Lovango Resort and Beach Club in the US Virgin Islands.
At the Nantucket Hotel, Kramer drew inspiration from a new collection of Lilly Pulitzer fabrics and wallcoverings produced by Lee Jofa. The result is two private cottages that perfectly showcase Benjamin Moore’s rich color palette, each a testament to color, comfort, and craftsmanship. The spaces have been beautifully transformed with whimsical floral prints across custom headboards, drapery, accent pillows, and hand-painted murals that weave together a cohesive design narrative, blending nostalgia and modernity.
“The curated print selection is exceptional,” said Suzanne Cohen, Chief Marketing Officer for Lee Jofa. “Our multi-colored ‘She’s Got Sol’ serves as a pivotal design element, while the ‘Costa Verde’ chevron repeat in various colorways provides an ethereal quality. We are excited to partner with Lilly Pulitzer on this important project.”
The first cottage, a spacious two-bedroom suite, boasts a distinct floral character in each room, unified by a living area featuring a stunning hand-shelled fireplace designed by Lilly Pulitzer—perfect for cozy, coastal evenings. With walls painted in a soft Benjamin Moore sand-tone known as “Straw Hat,” the cottage serves as a neutral backdrop for vibrant layers of color. A mural in the kitchen, created by Lilly Pulitzer artists, harmonizes with the bold fabrics throughout the space, enhancing the overall creative design.
The second, more intimate one-bedroom cottage is enveloped in a serene “bird’s egg blue” from Benjamin Moore. Here, the vibrant wallcoverings and floral textiles create a saturated visual experience that feels both sophisticated and inviting. Custom lighting and curated artwork, featuring images of Lilly Pulitzer herself, add a unique charm and personality to the environment.
Kramer elaborated on the design intent, stating, “We wanted these cottages to feel like garden parties you never want to leave. They’re playful but sophisticated, designed for the guest who desires a blend of luxury and personality.”
Mira Fain, Lilly Pulitzer’s Chief Creative Officer, expressed her excitement about the project: “Nantucket is a very important resort town where Lilly Pulitzer has celebrated the community for decades. The Summer Cottages at The Nantucket encapsulate everything the Lilly brand stands for—signature prints in an exquisite color palette, all wrapped up in a chic resort lifestyle.”
This collaboration signifies a continued evolution of the convergence between interior design and fashion, demonstrating how lifestyle brands can create meaningful connections to their locations through immersive spaces. Special branded elements, including custom hand towels and bed linens, contribute to the cottages’ vibrant atmosphere.
The cottages are set to open for public bookings starting July 17, following a series of appointment-only walk-through visits and weeklong events as part of Nantucket By Design. As the resort embraces this creative endeavor, it promises guests an unforgettable experience immersed in the enchanting world of Lilly Pulitzer.
