Michaeline Becker’s extensive career in the beauty industry is awe-inspiring. But what did it take to reach her goal of freelancing full-time? In this article, learn about Michaeline Becker’s journey to succeed in the beauty industry and her plans for the future of her brand.
“In my first career, I was a biomedical engineer, and I have my Master’s in biomedical engineering. Before I transitioned to freelance, I worked as a full-time employee for about five years,” says Michaeline Becker.
With her career in another field, Michaeline Becker had to nurture her passion for hair and makeup while still working full-time. Through this, she quickly realized that if she continued to try and balance both, she would never be truly happy, and her passion was in the beauty industry.
Michaeline Becker says, “It felt like a huge risk to leave the security of a full-time position at an established company where I had health benefits and a 401k. But I felt like I was being pulled in a different direction. I have been building my career as a makeup artist and hairstylist for ten years.”
What made Michaeline Becker realize her love for makeup and hairstyling was that after practicing on herself, she began to do hair and makeup for her friends and family. Through this, she then decided to go to cosmetology school.
When she began her career, Michaeline Becker faced fears about her new job, with the pressures of society beginning to get to her. She says, “As a self-employed artist, you might not know when you’ll get your next gig, so it can be daunting. So you put a lot of pressure on yourself to be the best and excel in a short time.”
However, despite the fears, she persevered by keeping a positive mindset and believing she would succeed. This attitude allowed her to buckle down and work hard to achieve her goals.
“Over the years, I ended up being able to work on jobs for HBO, Cosmopolitan, and Target, along with celebrities, such as Sofia Reyes and Baby Ariel, to name a few,” says Michaeline Becker, reflecting on her extensive portfolio.
When looking to the future, Michaeline Becker hopes to continue her excellent work and expand her brand to include various other ventures in the beauty industry. She says, “It’s been a gratifying experience to see my business grow, and as far as my future goals for my career, I want to continue to grow my current business with the momentum I have. In addition, I’d love to perhaps partner with a makeup brand as their lead artist.”
Other than continuing to expand her business, Michaeline Becker hopes to add on the beauty content creator title, focus her spare time on educating people on TikTok about the beauty industry and share her knowledge from cosmetology school and her work experiences with the world.
“I think the biggest accomplishment in my career, when I look back over the last ten years, was my ability to transition to full-time freelancer. This allowed me to offer my clients an excellent experience,” says Michaeline Becker.
