Oxford Languages defines the word win as “managing to succeed or achieve something by effort”. It also defines the adjective winning as “gaining, resulting in, or relating to victory in a contest or competition”. So, if every day is different, is there a way to make sure they are all a win? What can I do on a daily basis to ensure my day is positive and productive? Is there a sustainable and achievable plan I can follow to ensure that I’m headed towards winning? These are all questions that constantly recur throughout the history of mankind, but even more so present day. Listed below are 3 easy steps to make sure you are on a winning path!
- Decide that this moment is the shifting point! No matter where you are you can decide that the path and pattern of your life can change. This is simple but also a complex concept. Shifting the moment may be as easy as choosing to read a book you keep hearing about, but never take time to read. It can also be a more complicated task like creating an extensive budgeting plan for the year or deciding to pursue a different career path (bye bye law school, hello hot yoga instructor). Any step in the direction that you truly desire to go is a step in the right direction. Make today good by making the moment good. Pivot!
- Force a life of winning by taking massive action. Oxford Languages says that force is “strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement.” It is also defined as the powerful effect of something. In this case, force can be seen as the effect of action. Big, forceful actions equal big forceful results. In order to win, it’s important to understand you must move. Think of everyday as a small battle and life as the war. The only way to win a big war is to constantly overcome those daily challenges. Take action, conquer the obstacles and may the force be with you!
- Trust the process. An easy way to make sure you win every day is by following through with the plan you have created. Not every win is instant therefore the emphasis on the process is vital to achieve the final goal. Stay consistent, believe even when it’s hard to see the outcome, and know that your journey is unique. When you understand that the process is just as important as the goal, your mind can create an endless pool of possibilities of how to get to where you want to go in life. There are many ways to get from point A to point B. If a straight line doesn’t work for you, choose a way that does. You can also use time in your favor as a measure to anticipate the ETA of the win. There’s nothing like seeing the finish line before you cross it. Awwwwww the sweet smell of victory!
In sum, everyone loves a quick, easy win, but understanding how to obtain the win can sometimes seem complicated and unobtainable. American businessman George Steinbrenner put it this way, “Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing. Breathing first, winning next.” If winning is as important as society makes it out to be, why not plan to do it more often. Make sure to shift the moment you’re in, take heavy action toward your goal, and trust that the path you’re on will lead you to success.
