St. Johns County took center stage at the Florida State Capitol on February 5, bringing its rich culture, thriving local businesses, and strategic community priorities to Tallahassee during Legislative Day. The immersive event offered state lawmakers and attendees a firsthand look at what makes the county a vibrant and growing community.
The Capitol Courtyard became a bustling showcase of St. Johns County’s distinctive character and opportunities, featuring authentic local cuisine, demonstrations from farms and recreation venues, and interactive exhibits that highlighted the area’s history, natural beauty, and economic strengths.
County Leadership Connects with Lawmakers
All five members of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners were present at the event, including Chair Clay Murphy, Vice Chair Ann Taylor, and Commissioners Christian Whitehurst, Sarah Arnold, and Krista Joseph. They met with members of the Florida Legislature to discuss the county’s 2026 Legislative Action Plan, which focuses on policies to support economic growth, infrastructure improvements, and quality-of-life enhancements for residents.
Celebration of Culture and Community
Live entertainment and cultural displays helped bring St. Johns County’s spirit to life. Attendees enjoyed performances ranging from the Scotty Barnhart Quartet, led by Grammy Award-winner Scotty Barnhart, to circus acts by Venardos Circus, followed by a musical performance by the Steve Taff Band. These attractions, combined with food and beverage offerings and interactive exhibits, created an engaging atmosphere throughout the day.
Local farms, parks, historical sites, and colleges also participated, allowing visitors and lawmakers to experience the full breadth of what St. Johns County has to offer. The event underscored the collaborative efforts of residents, businesses, and community organizations in shaping the county’s success.
Advocating for Community Priorities
St. Johns County Legislative Day served as both a celebration of community pride and a platform for advocacy. Leadership emphasized the importance of direct engagement with policymakers to ensure that the county’s needs and future goals are well understood and supported at the state level.
Organized in partnership with the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce and the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach, the event highlighted not only the county’s cultural heritage but also its economic potential and quality-of-life advantages.
As St. Johns County continues its community engagement efforts, leaders plan to build on the success of Legislative Day with future events designed to deepen connections with policymakers, residents, and business partners.
