Ishaan Jagiasi is a former high school basketball player whose success story simply needs to be told. After all, he overcame obstacles along his path to success, and proved others wrong by achieving something they doubted. This former Huntington Prep varsity basketball player may have been one of the shortest on his team, but he ended up helping his team become the #1 team in West Virginia at the time.
As someone who is of Indian origin, living in the small city of Wilmington, Delaware was a little more challenging for him than for most.
Against all odds, Ishaan made the cut and got on the Huntington Prep Basketball team for the 2018-2019 year. Getting onto this basketball powerhouse was a dream come true for him at the time. After all, it is one of the best programs in the entire nation. In fact, numerous NBA players have come from here, including the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Mile Bridges, and Thomas Bryant.
Before he got onto the team, the head coach, Arkell Bruce, called Ishaan. Before he began attending Huntington Prep, he flat out told Ishaan “We can’t guarantee anything. You are going to have to come here and complete.” Undeterred, Ishaan did exactly that. He showed them all just how skilled of a player he was on the court.
Sure enough, he proved he had what it took to be on this legendary high school basketball team. Ishaan ended up becoming teammates with many Division 1 players, including Jaemyn Brakefield (Duke), Quinn Slazinski (Louisville), AJ Hoggard (Michigan State), Josh Primo (Alabama), JT Thor (Auburn), Emmanuel Okpomo (Wake Forest), Dudley Blackwell (Iowa State), Greg Tribble (Akron), Zach Loveday (Baylor), Andre Gordon (Texas A&M), and Jimma Gatwetch (NBA draft prospect and skilled dunker).
Ishaan ended up rising quite high when it came to his national rank, as well as his West Virginia ranking. Today, this former Huntington Prep Standout and 2014 Pokemon National Champion has motivated many with his inspiring story. It tells others that anything is possible; you just have to outwork everyone else and stay positive.
Once Ishaan graduated from Huntington Prep, he went on to college, going to the University of Kansas. However, he ended up transferring to Penn State University. Now that he is there, Ishaan continues to motivate others with his success story.
Now an alumnus of Huntington Prep basketball, the basketball star enjoys a large fanbase on his verified TikTok page, at 320K followers and climbing. There, he inspires others to achieve their dreams, especially if it involves becoming a top basketball player as he was.
