In 2003, Lina and Vanessa, two college girls visiting Marrakech, were struck by the vibrancy of Moroccan culture and the beautiful creations of local artisans, many of whom were women with captivating life stories. Inspired by what they saw, they felt compelled to help these artisans by sharing their work and stories with the world.
Fast forward to 2020, Lina and Vanessa fulfilled their dream with the launch of My Little Maroc, a brand that aims to contribute to the economic empowerment of Moroccan women and the preservation of traditional crafts in the country. My Little Maroc employs a network of local artisans in a Fair Trade dimension that produce their Moroccan treasures. Through My Little Maroc, Lina and Vanessa hope to bring the sunshine and happiness they found in Morocco to homes worldwide.
Global expansion through a wide-ranging of high-quality products
Since its launch in 2020, My Little Maroc has rapidly expanded its reach beyond its initial markets in Morocco, the United States, Canada, and Europe, now serving customers in the Middle East. The company’s success is partly due to its extensive range of products, including baskets, pillows, pottery, poufs, and rugs, sourced directly from local artisans and crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail.
In addition to its global expansion, My Little Maroc has expanded in the business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) markets, offering a wider range of products for commercial establishments like hotels, restaurants and residential projects. The company’s commitment to fair trade practices and long-term relationships with its artisans has made it a popular choice for businesses seeking high-quality, ethical products.
“My Little Maroc strives to be the leading provider of handmade Moroccan Artisanal items in the United States and hopefully worldwide. As we continue to expand, we hope to add additional products for the home and possibly clothing. Morocco has so many beautiful handmade items, and we would love to share them with the world,” shares Vanessa.
Passion for empowering artisans and Moroccan craftsmanship
At the heart of My Little Maroc’s success is the passion of its founders, Lina and Vanessa, for empowering the artisans they work with. Lina explains, “We want to create a world where artisans are valued for their craft and have access to the resources they need to thrive.” This commitment to empowering artisans is reflected in the company’s operations and its focus on building long-term relationships with its partners.
For the founders, My Little Maroc is more than just a business venture – it is a way to make a difference in the lives of the artisans they work with. “As we continue to build long-term relationships with these artisans, we hope to contribute to the economic empowerment of women and the preservation of Morocco’s traditional crafts,” Vanessa says.
Lina and Vanessa, both moms and businesswomen, are deeply passionate about My Little Maroc. They view it as a side job that allows them to showcase beautiful handmade items from Morocco to other countries worldwide while raising awareness about the conditions in which the women artisans live in.
What’s ahead for My Little Maroc?
“We are cutting out the middleman, and it’s one of our core values to ensure we build long-term relationships with the artisans and our clients in a Fair Trade dimension. Our sole purpose is to do whatever we can to help the artisans,” Lina concludes. “Our dream one day would be to open some schools where the artisans can teach their respective trade, and at the same time, they are offered a proper education.
As My Little Maroc continues to grow and expand, it remains committed to its mission of supporting local artisans and preserving Morocco’s traditional crafts. With a growing customer base and an extensive product range, the brand is poised for continued success in both the B2B and B2C markets.
