Success means something different to everyone. For many, it’s measured by titles, degrees, promotions, or business milestones. Growing up, Sofia didn’t even know what success meant. She wasn’t dreaming about owning a business or becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Her biggest dream was much simpler—to help her parents retire one day, achieve financial freedom, and make sure her family never had to struggle the way they did. At that stage in her life, survival meant success for Sofia.
Sofia’s story didn’t begin in America or healthcare. It began thousands of miles away.
Sofia was born in Afghanistan, and when war forced her family to leave, they fled to Pakistan before eventually immigrating to the United States when she was still young. Like many immigrant families, her parents sacrificed everything to give their children a better future. They worked long hours in minimum-wage jobs simply to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads.
As the eldest daughter, responsibility found Sofia early. While other children worried about homework or after-school activities, she came home to help clean the house, cook dinner, care for her younger siblings, and make sure everyone stayed on schedule while her parents worked. She never questioned it. It was simply what needed to be done.
Looking back, Sofia realizes those years shaped every decision she would make as an adult. Responsibility became second nature. She learned early that love is often shown through service, and that caring for others isn’t always about grand gestures—it can be found in everyday moments of showing up for the people who need you. Long before Sofia ever became a nurse, taking care of others had already become part of her identity.
Like many first-generation children, Sofia believed education was the path to stability. She has been working since she was sixteen years old. She moved quickly from one goal to the next, earning one degree after another. She rarely paused to celebrate any accomplishment because she believed slowing down meant falling behind. Graduations quickly became another degree. A promotion became another responsibility. There was always another shift to work, another bill to pay, another family member to support, or another goal to accomplish. For years, Sofia lived in survival mode—always focused on what came next, never taking the time to appreciate how far she had already come.
Sofia began her nursing career in New York City and later returned to graduate school to become an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner while working full time and caring for her family. She spent nearly a decade caring for patients in healthcare, including years working in oncology.
Those experiences changed Sofia forever. Every patient reminded her how precious health truly is. Every family reminded her that medicine isn’t just about diagnoses and treatments—it’s about compassion, trust, and being present during life’s most difficult moments.
Even while working full-time and completing nurse practitioner school, Sofia found herself drawn to another passion. She started a concierge IV hydration business because she believed there was a more personal way to bring wellness to patients.
Looking back now, Sofia smiles because she truly knew nothing about entrepreneurship. In fact, she didn’t even think of it as entrepreneurship. She wasn’t trying to build a business—she was simply exploring something that excited her and aligned with her passion for helping people. She had no mentor, no investors, no roadmap, and no expectations that it would become anything more than a small side project. She only knew how to work hard, follow what felt meaningful, and trust that if she kept serving people well, everything else would eventually fall into place.
Working in oncology before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic exposed Sofia to an overwhelming amount of loss. She cared for critically ill patients, supported grieving families, and witnessed death more times than she could count. During that same period, she also experienced profound personal loss when she watched her own grandfather pass away during COVID-19. Carrying the weight of so much grief—both professionally and personally—began to affect Sofia in ways she could no longer ignore.
For the first time since she was sixteen years old, Sofia made one of the hardest decisions of her life—she resigned from her job without having another job lined up. For many people, changing jobs or careers is simply a professional decision. For Sofia, it felt much bigger than that. As the daughter of immigrants, she had always believed that stability came before everything else. At the age of twenty-five, Sofia retired her parents, and from that point on, she carried the responsibility of helping support her family. Walking away from a steady income wasn’t just frightening because she didn’t know what came next—it was terrifying because she didn’t know how it would affect the people who had always counted on her.
For years, Sofia had lived with the mindset that she simply had to keep going. No matter how exhausted she felt or how difficult life became, stopping was never an option. But after decades of working nonstop, Sofia realized she could no longer pour from an empty cup. Stepping away from the hospital wasn’t about abandoning her career or giving up on her purpose—it was about recognizing that she couldn’t continue caring for others if she was no longer caring for herself. That season became one of the greatest turning points in her life. It forced Sofia to trust herself, redefine what success looked like, and take a leap of faith into building something that aligned with both her passion and her purpose.
Instead of rushing into another job, Sofia focused on rebuilding—not just professionally, but personally. She continued supporting herself while slowly building her own practice from the ground up. There were no investors. There was no large financial backing. There was no family business to inherit. There wasn’t even someone showing her how to become a business owner. Everything Sofia learned came through trial and error.
As a woman-owned healthcare business, every milestone feels significant because Sofia knows exactly what it has taken to reach it.
Today, Sofia owns her medical spa in New York. Even writing those words feels surreal. Owning a business was never something Sofia imagined growing up. She knew how to be an employee. She knew how to work hard. She knew how to sacrifice. Learning how to become a leader, build a brand, make business decisions, and create opportunities for others requires an entirely different set of skills. It has pushed Sofia far outside her comfort zone.
Many people ask why Sofia chose aesthetic medicine after years working in traditional healthcare. The answer is simple. Confidence changes lives. Aesthetic medicine is sometimes misunderstood as being only about appearance. Her experience has shown her something very different.

You don’t have to know every business strategy. You don’t have to wait until you feel fearless. Start with integrity. Stay willing to learn. Accept that mistakes are part of growth. Most importantly, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Building a business is rarely a straight line. There will be setbacks, self-doubt, financial challenges, and moments when you question whether you’re capable. Keep going anyway.
When Sofia thinks about the little girl who came to America after fleeing war, helping raise her siblings while her parents worked tirelessly to build a new life, she knows she never imagined becoming a Nurse Practitioner, business owner, or entrepreneur. She simply learned to keep moving forward. Today, Sofia still carries that same determination, but instead of simply surviving, she is building—a business, opportunities, and confidence in herself and in others.
