A multi-hyphenate creative, D Malik is in full pursuit of his artistic vision. The Dubai-raised, Los Angeles-based producer brings a unique perspective to his music, drawing inspiration from a multitude of genres from rock to electronic to rap. On his long-awaited debut release, D Malik makes a powerful first impression with “Prince” ft. Michael Lanza, available now on all platforms with a striking music video accompaniment.
Inspired by the live experience, D Malik presents “Prince” as a bold, stadium-ready piece. The track combines fierce guitar riffs with a pulsating beat, and striking vocal performances by Michael Lanza – D Malik’s creative collaborator – and Malik himself. A high-impact debut, “Prince” is D Malik’s first act in the public eye, and a stirring expression of his own identity. “‘Prince’ showed me that I could incorporate sonic elements from my culture, from South Asia and the Middle East, and represent it on my debut release,” says D Malik on his upcoming release. “That was an important realization for me, having grown up on rap and rock and electronic from afar. It’s a piece of my identity for the world to hear – and that’s why I had to lead with it from the very start.”
Influenced by the enigmatic rollouts of artists like Daft Punk and The Weeknd, D Malik stays tight-lipped on what’s to follow in the months ahead. He does hint that “Prince” represents more than just a debut release, and might just be the beginning of an exciting new era of music.
“‘Prince’ is the nucleus – the start of this journey, in every way imaginable. It’s a piece I’ve been working on for almost two years, first created at my studio in Los Angeles and then taken around the world, from London to my hometown of Dubai. It was the first record from this new era that really impacted me – and the one that absolutely means the most…” – D Malik.
