In a heartwarming demonstration of community spirit, CLS Health, a prominent physician-owned healthcare group in the Houston area, collaborated with the Houston Food Bank for the inaugural CLS CARES event this past Saturday. More than 50 employee volunteers, along with their families, gathered to lend a helping hand, highlighting the organization’s commitment to giving back to the community beyond the walls of their clinics.
Over the course of just three hours, CLS Health volunteers successfully packed an impressive 12 pallets of food, equating to 540 boxes and ultimately providing 13,950 meals to seniors facing food insecurity across the Greater Houston area. This effort comes at a critical time, as food insecurity continues to impact many in Texas. A recent poll by No Kid Hungry Texas revealed that 44% of Texans experienced at least one sign of food insecurity in the past year.
“We were honored to be a small part of the extraordinary work the Houston Food Bank does every day,” remarked Dr. Mohammed J. Baba, president of CLS Health. “Healthcare is about compassion and connection, and our day of service at the Houston Food Bank is a meaningful opportunity for us to give back to a community we care deeply about.”
CLS CARES, the company’s new community engagement initiative, aims to strengthen ties with local neighborhoods and reflect the organization’s mission of serving with compassion. Participants spent the afternoon sorting and packing food, ensuring that meals reached seniors in need, making a direct impact on their well-being.
Dr. Naureen Alim, a CLS Health physician and participant in the event, shared her sentiments: “Being part of CLS CARES reminds me why I became a physician in the first place – to care deeply, both in and out of the clinic.”
The event took place at the Houston Food Bank’s headquarters, located at 535 Portwall Street, and showcased the power of teamwork in addressing community needs. Attendees and volunteers departed with a sense of fulfillment and a commitment to continued service.
“This is just the beginning,” Dr. Baba added, encouraging the community to stay tuned for more opportunities to engage with CLS Health’s upcoming initiatives. “We will continue to invest in the well-being of the neighborhoods we serve.”
As CLS Health embarks on its journey of community engagement, the success of the CLS CARES event serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and connection in fostering healthier, more resilient communities.
